    Is the top part removable?

The actuators are all color coded so,if it looks the same it will work. I'm not aware of any that are Cabrio specific as long as the replacement comes from the same door it's going in to. To test it actuate it by hand. It takes a bit of effort but if you can't move it, it's probably toast

Found the part number for the longer actuator yesterday.

          51261394366 (drivers side)
          51261394367 (passengers side)

looks like bmw just decided to interchange the actuators. plugging in the part number it shows up in 318i's.

The shorter actuator uses a hook. I wonder if everything else with the locking mechanism is the same so I can just swap in the shorter one in. I'll be messing it again tomm w update

Something must be different if the attachment points and actuation point is in a different sport. Maybe the wire hook is different?

Plug in your VIN on realoem, and compare with a "normal" E30 maybe?

All the actuators on my 1990 vert look like the one on the right. There is a little bit of adjustment room to set the actuator correctly, you might be able to use either one. Can you grab one from a junkyard and see if it will line up etc?

I tried the shorter acuator and does not work with my whole locking mechanism. The metal loop makes it too long. The part the end attaches to on my cabrio only hooks to actuator on the left.
