    a/c not cooling enough

I have a 3 year old conversion to R134a, and even at full blast and with recirc on the cart remains hottish in 95 South Florida heat. Am I just expecting too much?

My ir tool measured 40 degrees and I have about 25 psi on the low pressure line.

Sorry that I can't help you, but coming from a guy who doesn't have working A/C, I'd be pretty darn happy with 40 degree vent air

40 degree vent temp at 95 C ambient is pretty good..

55 degree temperature differential is on par with brand new AC systems.

Mines ice cold. Isn't 25psi on the lower side?

Lower is better.. But 25 is a bit low for a 95 degree day. If it's 25 at idle it's way too low. Pressure readings should be taken at 2000 rpm.

Pressures are generally meaningless because they vary with ambient temp and engine rpm.
Never fill by reading persssure. Filling by monitoring vent temp is the most effective way.

Either you have a black car or non tinted windows.
Just slowly fill refrigerant and see if vent Temps drop. If they don't there's no point in filling

If the car is blowing 40 degrees in 95 degree heat, there is nothing that you can improve in the A/C system. The issue is air flow. If you were blowing air any colder than that, you’d just freeze the evaporator.

Are you putting it on recirc? E30 A/C is immensely more effective run that way.

If it's running 40 degree air without recirc on it must be gods air conditioning

Speaking from experience, if you have a black convertible top in South Florida, your E30 a/c will have a really hard time keeping up, especially if the car is parked in the sun or you are running short errands and the car never gets a chance to really cool down.

I agree the 40 degree vent temps indicated a healthy system.

I have same issue now that someone has made thread about it. I can only keep the car icely cold with ac if I am moving, I have the r134 conversion done but when sitting for a very long time it doesn't seem like it can keep up...

                      -R134 Conversion
                      -RedE30
                      -Black OEM Top
                      -Windows are not tinted

over all I am happy, better with it then without anything like rest of my e30's in past and present

Go to the aux electric fan in the front. Cut out the 6 Ohm low speed resistor attached to it. Solder and heat shrink on a new piece of wire of equal gauge to replace the resistor. Change what I remember as 15 amp fuse #3 with a 30 amp fuse. This makes the low speed side of the circuit the same as the factory high side of the circuit.

Benefit, the fan will now run at full speed greatly enhancing stand still and low speed A/C performance.

Downside, it's a little louder from the front due to fan noise. In the car, top down or up, you can't hear a difference.

Living in Texas, it's made all the difference.

Jumping the resistor is a good idea, but rather than cut and solder just move the low speed wire to the high side lug. Not only is it reversible but the terminals are already there. Unscrew, rescrew, change fuse, be cool

I drive with the top down so a/c isn't ends all be all, but it does rain here and sometime I am forced to put the top up. 90 and rain is awful in a car w/o a/c
