servicing window switch? check it out

one of my powerwindow switches would always stop intermittently. I got annoyed with it and decided to take apart my switch to see wtf was going on.

basically for the powerwindow switch to work, the 4 contacts pictured have to touch at rest. when you push up or down, this breaks the circuit. over time, the contacts need to be bent back into shape.

    just bend the prongs outward

    Another area to check is

while I had my switch apart, I cleaned everything up.

there you go, now you have a working switch.

Nice!! I'm having issues too with my windows.
Will do this over the next weekend or so when I have some off days from work.

    Thanks for the tip

Use a wire brush or sandpaper to clean the switch contacts.

Also, the all of the window switch grounds are located above the brake pedal. There is a bracket near the steering column that has two 10mm nuts. You will see a bunch of brown wires with ring lugs that are secured to the two bolts.

Upper nut is cluster and illumination circuits.

        Lower nut is power windows.

Some cars might be worth removing the nut and cleaning all the ring lugs with a wire brush, then re-secure. Cars with corroded grounds will probably notice faster window travel after cleaning.
