I normally hate to bash other peoples threads but I have to say that I would not recommend this DIY for making battery cables.

The OP use pliers as his crimper instead of crimpers designed for the lug and wire. There is no strain relief, and those run lug types will surely fail. I have seen it many times in my professional career.

Should this connection fail, while connected to the battery, it will no doubt cause a vehicle fire. I would hate to see a member's car catch fire because of a poor battery cable connection failing and falling onto electrical ground.

A proper 4AWG crimping tool should be used and a higher quality ring lug should be used also. Also can substitute set screw type ring lugs instead of crimping.

I agree with the proper use of terminal end and crimp tool.
When I did my double ought wire install for a stereo we had to use a mallet and punch tool to crimp the wire end.
Further more and it takes a bit of time solder that entire end to the terminal crimp.
