I'm currently in the middle of this. Got the rack a while ago, this line, do I need to crimp both ends of it? The one side popped off quite easily. Also, how should it be ran? Will it hug the subframe or should I worry about pinching it?

I've been searching but haven't found the definitive answer yet...but with airbag cars, spacers on the bottom of the rack mean I don't have to modify the firewall correct?

Air bag cars just need the subframe spaced iirc

Subframe spaced? Thats the first I've heard of that, I thought it was only the steering rack that needed spacing?

Thats what i meant my bad. Just space the steering rack in the subframe

Steering rack spacers on the subframe. That's what he meant.

Correct - but what I'm wondering is if the spacer goes above the rack or below the rack. The attached diagrams show both options.

I just haven't found a definitive answer to which option is better, and if the bump steer is really an issue.

                    BELOW
I've read that by putting the spacers below the rack, it raises it enough that you don't have to cut the firewall, but it gives nasty bump steer

                    ABOVE
Apparently putting them above means you have to cut the fire wall, but you get far less bump steer.

Sorry to resurrect this thread again - but how in the hell did everyone get the rubber boot off the steering shaft in order to dremel the firewall? I'm doing the swap with the car on jack stands and I can't get enough leverage / figure out a way to get the rubber boot off to expose the firewall.

                      Thoughts?

I removed the steering wheel column boot with some pliers and a screwdriver, I thought the boot was going to rip because it was stuck on there good, but it survived.

Good to know, thanks for the input.

I was worried pulling on it that it would tear. I'll give it another shot with more muscle.

I've run into another snag here...

...for an airbag car, I am reusing the e30 PS lines rather than getting the e36 resivour and his pressure PS line...but I can't figure out how the 'coiled' PS line is to be run? The line I am talking about is highlighted yellow in this diagram.

For the high pressure line, I believe I just used an m20 high pressure line and bent it to fit. Granted I was doing a 24v swap at the time, so perhaps the coiled line can work better with the m42 space confines.
