You don't want to do this twice.
Okay, I was wondering about this.
Since I already placed the order, I'll just go with rmeuropean since I've read good reviews.

ANything else you can think of? Thanks for your help too. Recommend any tranny fluid as well?

Basically when you do the shifter you might also want to do the guibo if you haven't done that already as you'll have to remove it anyway to make room for the shifter components. I've paid a shop to do all the shifter components once while doing a clutch job, shifter slop didn't go away, I then had a problem with a guibo and replaced it along with more shifter parts and it still didn't go away. I am going to do it once more, this time ALL of shifter components will be replaced with a new console and shift lever. basically, do as much as possible once to not do it again is the key here.

Tranny fluid wise Redline MTL is what lots of guys recommend.

This is hard finding all the pieces at the same place.

RMeuropean carries the rod joint and I'm assuming I'll need the o-rings as well?
And I guess I should get a new rubber boot? Mine is crap; is this necessary to keep dirt from getting down in it?

Okay so $69 at BMW for the SSK.

          $86 @ PelicanParts for a hopefully slop-free rebuild.

I'll have to wait awhile to even purchase a heavier knob :/

I have almost zero shifter slop. And this is accomplished with solid aluminum bushings were the rubber ones usually go. Very tight, and virtually no shifter slop.

Are they off the shelf bushings or you had them custom made ?

i had them custom made with a lathe.

very effective. minimal vibrations, but i dont even notice unless i try to.

I just ordered the z4 2.5 kit from my 318is from BMA. Pat is a really nice guy and helped me pick a kit out for my car. I will post a review after I put it on and use it for a week or two. thanks for the info on this thread. it was very helpful.

i just ordered the z4 3.0 shift lever and know i want to put a new boot on it, however since this is a lot lower then the stock handle, i also ordered the ZHP knob from tischer and the boot i want is from redlinegoods.com and they custom make the boot, and there is an option when ordering about a resizing in the boot, question is what should i drop it down to from stock, aka what is the drop in height from the stock knob, they have 1", 1.2", 1.5", 1.8", 2" shorter then stock boots, what should i get?

all together it was $71. It didn't say how much the lever was on the receipt. I would look on bma and just put in z4 2.5 and you should be able to search it.

I have an E36 M3 shift rod, I'll be shortening the height by around .5" just for a subtle difference. I'm also making a wooden shift knob that will have the knob end where the OEM plastic insert ends so the knob will be as low as it can be while using the stock connection.
I'll report back when I get it in.

i just bought a 3.0 lever from the dealer, now will i have to bend the lever itself? cause it came as a straight lever from the factory, but the stock one i took out had a kink in it, will this screw up shifting and will i be hitting the console? or will it sit properly in the middle there. i got a 91 318i, i havent installed the leve cause it seems like it will be misplaced in the console but i dunno....

I know there's a lot in here, but I'm sure it's been covered.

I'm not sure if a 91 M42 powered e30 has the huge harmonic balancer, but if it doesn't, it will be fine.

To tell, get underneath and look at the flex disc (right at the back of the tranny) If there's a huge piece of metal around the flex disc, there may be risk of contact.
