Cheap fix for brittle crank sensor connectors

In the middle of a 1983 633CSI engine swap and my crank sensor connectors crumbled during disconnection. I fought with the idea of buying two new sensors $$$ - but decided to see if BMW sold the connector separately. They only sell the female connector. I popped it into Mouser and then was able to find "compatible products" and found the male connector. Price for two of the connectors was under $20 delivered to my door.

Here are some photos. -- Hope this helps!

This brings back a lot of memories working on my Porsche 944 Turbo, those engines run really hot (open the hood and you receive this gush of heat it is silly) and yes, the majority of all connectors for the engine hardness just crumbles in you'r hands before attempting to even disconnect them.

Especially on the rear of the engine at the bell housing, two sensors there, reference sensor and speed sensor, either will cause a crank and no start issue.

Interesting that BMW does not sell the male plugs, Porsche stocks both male and female plugs and boots in vast quantities (for obvious reasons). Appreciate the link, sure will be useful for anyone down the road wanting to rebuild the harness or find replacement.

Ahhhhh, you're falling into the hole of connector plug part numbers. I've spent hours over the past few weeks trying to make sense of everything. At a high level, these connectors are all made by TE Connectivity. The correct connectors are Junior Timer, but some of the connection types are not available as a Junior Timer. In those cases, Junior Power Timer connectors will work. TE has a 'Datasheets & Catalog Pages' document called, "ENG_CS_889759_3_Timer_Interconnection_System_ _071 2" This will help to identify part numbers, but many are NLA and superseded. Here is my In-Process connector chart:
