    E30 Touring M40B18 Turbo

    Hi!

    I have done a Turbo conversion on my M40 Touring.

    Specs
    Turbo: Td04l 13T
    Custom Exhaust manifold and downpipe
    FMIC
    30lb Injector from VW 1.8T AUQ
    Stock internals and headgasket (cylinderhead and gasket redone)
    Stock ECU
    8.8:1
    100 ROZ


    Stock Software edited to fit bigger Injector. AFM Not touched.

    At the moment max 0,5bar boost and on WOT 11,8-12 AFR

    I'm unsure how massive i have to retard ignition for more boost on this engine. Not much information or expirience to find, especially for Stock ECU.
    Standalone ECU is to expensive and the possibility of undoing it to NA.


    I would be happy to hear any suggestions or experiences
    Is it necessary to Touch partial load ignition Maps?
    And when i slowly accelerate with little boost Like 0,2-0,35bar AFR is around 13,2-13,5 - should i go richer?

    I personally run richer then that both at part throttle and WOT.
    Some of this is personal preference. I would rather use a little more fuel then risk detonation.

    If you have bad fuel or a weak injector then IMO you are taking a risk targeting 12:1 under full boost.
    That will run that particular cyl leaner then 12:1.​

    Again for safety, I would target at least 11.5:1 at 0.5bar, down to below 11:1 at 0.9bar

    Do you have any knock detection with that engine/ECU combination?

      You are right i will go richer.
      On mid/Low load i have some weird lean spots ...only sometimes
      Without a Realtime Emulator a bit difficult to sort out.


      So the plan is adding boost to ~0.8bar
      fuel target ~afr 11
      Reduce Ignition - 1 degree per psi or the formula 0.3 degree/1kpa ? Just for a rough map
      Then adding ignition with a tool to Log knocking, a visual thing would be nice otherwise going for cheap dirty Headphones with cable

          So i have added boost to 0.9bar, fuel Maps adjustet to be Safe.

          Made a diy knocking ear phones.
          Had knocking on peak between 3900-4100
          Added less ignition advance and more fuel in this area.


          No knocking at the moment.
          Pulls really well.
          But there is a new Upgrades needed -- Clutch is slipping ...
          Any Opinion for a Upgrade Clutch - daily use ??

          With Upgraded Clutch i will going further with boost.
