    Knowledge of Megasquirt

I'm new to the e30 scene, I've fallen for them hard and there is no going back. Coming from the domestic world of FI chevy and fords.........holy hell these engine bays blow my mind! I have never EVER scene so many coolant hoses hahaha.

Anyways i'm pulling the m20b25 to prep it for boost, I've never dealt with anything like megasquirt just blow-thru setups. I'm not the guys that sits here and says "can you tell my how to hook this up, and give me all the necessary information to do it right?!" I prefer to teach myself. That being said, I do not know where to start.......I have looked at threads where guys use megasquirt, but a lot of what they are showing me is still a foreign language.

I like blueapplesoda and whodwho's pnp systems, I'm just not sure they are still making them? And Nando's ride is crazy, so freakin clean it makes me jealous. I'm willing to learn, but I need some direction and guidance where to start.

Maybe throw down some basic terms, items I will need so I can research and get an understanding of there function and necessity.

    Thanks guys.

What sort of terms do you need explained? Dunno if you checked out E30Tech or not but their forums are more geared towards boosted cars where as here it seems are 24V swaps.

      whodwho still makes his.

I suggest going to www.msextra.com and reading through the manual for MS2. also, the support forums there are top notch. you're going to want to get a copy of Tunerstudio (you really, really, REALLY want the paid for version) and probably megalogviewer too.

I have a bunch of plug and play stuff I've done but it's basically obsolete now, because you can buy better PnP units already made than it's really possible to build yourself.

Thanks for the replies, I actually found that site and diyautotune.com and have been reading all weekend.

        Nando-

So I understand you correctly, your saying that in the end it's probably cheaper to just buy the pnp version over building one because they'll cost the same? I'm completely fine with that as I do not have much experience with electrical, and electronic stuff, my strengths land in the custom fab area.

I plan on boosting the car, but not right off the bat, I'm rebuilding the motor for boost, but will put it back together and tackle some other upgrades before I add the turbo. I would just like to implement a stand alone ecu now versus putting the motor together then stripping a bunch of crap off of it again.

you could build it a bit cheaper but the quality of a pre-built one will be much better, plus you get tech support which will be invaluable.

whodwho's product is great plus he's an E30 guy so you'd be supporting the community (FWIW, the DIY guys are also great and actively supporting E30s).

            Awesome,

I just sent Whodwho a pm on his setup. I didn't know if blueapplesoda was still doing his? I ran across his thread and his came with injectors.

But if I understand Whodwho's correctly, it's literally pnp, no additional wiring needed at all, unless you upgrade parts. I'd really like to do a multi coil setup, something like yours actually. SO clean, and I always get excited when people take on the fabrication too! Great job on that by the way.

Thank you for your input, there is a lot of great information on this site.

you will want MS3 to do a multi-coil setup, but that will never be a "PnP" thing anyway, you'd have to build it pretty much from scratch (there's the new MS3 pro, which is a pre-built MS3 with automotive grade connectors, but it still wouldn't be PnP)

the simplest thing to do for the coil is to do a wasted spark setup, the wiring is less complicated and you still get 99% of the benefits.

I need to read up more on that wasted spark, I think there was a sticky thread on here, or e30tech I'll checkout.

Here's how I did mine, your coil setup will obviously be different:

Whatever you do, listen to hoveringuy and nando. They know their shit. they were a big contribution to my car running on ms3. Thanks for posting good info. ^
