    CEL after chip installation

    Hi Guys,

It's my first time changing ecu chip. After installing the new chip I started the car for a 1 minute or 2 then after 1 hr drove the car around the city to test the car performance. I noticed I got an CEL, I did a stomp test and got a 1211 fault code which indicate a dead DME/ECU. The car starts and runs fine. Does the fault code really points to ecu problem or other things? I don't have an CEL prior to installing the chip. Please advise what to do next.

    Thanks in advance.

I removed the negative cable from battery for overnight and will try it again tomorrow. If it still there I guess I have to replace the ecu. one last question, what happen if I always drive the car while having 1211 fault code?

Did you install the chip correctly? I think there's a groove mark on one side that you have to match while installing it.

              or
Did you buy chance static shock the board when you swaped the chip? Or did u bend any of the tabs on the chip?

i think static shock was the cause. and yes i bent the tabs on the chips by hand (that was my mistake)

anyway, i reverted the chip back to stock and CEL is gone.

If the car starts and runs fine with chip installed and has 1211 fault code, does it mean checksum error? And eventually it will gone?

In line to this question, what are the possibilities may happen?

                            thanks!

a checksum error is coded into the chip, it's not going to go away.

if it runs fine I doubt there would be any real problems except for the constantly annoying CEL. it tells me either the guy who made the chip made an honest mistake and forgot to correct the checksums, or he didn't know what he was doing.
