I'm glad your staying with a single tip though. I have seen wayy too many hacked up valences.

My 3.7 liter M30 @ 275 hp (230 rwhp) was fine on 2.5. 2.5 would be Plenty on your car.

I think i can buy reducers...2.5 to 3, and weld those one, seem like a doable solution?

or should I return, exhaust and get smaller parts

If they will exchange that would be the best. If not , perhaps a 2.5 res and run 2.5 all the way to the muff then expand and go 3 inch thru the muff and out the car. 3 inch muff will be louder (deeper) than 2.5

Torque is made in the headers, not exhaust pipes.

Show me the back to back dyno runs. They both play a part.

Only in that exhaust pipes always cause a restriction. E30 guys remain in the dark ages of exhaust. Do some research sometime.

So you vote for a 3 inch pipe on an M50 why? Because it weighs more? Do you think that a 2.5 inch pipe would restrict a tiny M50? I know where you are coming from but why stop at 3 inch? Why not 4? I still cant see a dyno run proving your statements regarding an M50 BMW engine. I am not talking about a race car because Matts car is not a race car and a properly sized exhaust will provide a broader torque curve for street driving without sacrificing much peak HP.

Again. Torque is made in the header - if you want a broad tq curve, buy headers to suit. Exhaust pipes have nothing to do with it.

Matt, run single 2.5" on the car, trust me.

Just keep your 3 inch muffler and get a reducer. You can still have a 3 inch tip out back, it will look good in the 318 valance.
