    Which resonator?

I just installed a Magnaflow catback, and deleted the stock resonator in the process. It's a 2.5" catback now instead of the stock 2.25". It now sounds like a ricer fartcan at anything above 2500rpms.

Which resonator should I install to get rid of all the high rasp?

    Don't, find a nice muffler.

If you also remove the cat, then find the longest round body muffler to fit under there.

Don't try to fit an oval muffler in center section. I made a mistake by using an oval shape muffler (magnaflow 11366) as resonator. It was a little too thick.

Installer had to cut away a portion of heat shield to fit and avoiding hanging the box too low. This will heat up CSB and kill it fast.

an oval muffler will fit fine if you mount it further back, just in front of the subframe.

defintely add a muffler of some sort, largest you can fit (unless you like the fart can sound). a resonator isn't going to do piss all to tone down the awful sound, which is mostly caused by the magnaflow that is probably too small to begin with.

The magnaflow is 2.5" in and out... can't imagine it being too small. It was run on a 325e race car which I'm guessing flows more exhaust gas than an m42. And what the heck is wrong with magnaflows? I'd say 50% of the aftermarket mufflers on e30s are magnaflows, everyone loves them.

Kenny, Jeff would probably throw in an 18" glasspack for another $30. Anyone have input on whether a glasspack between the cat and magnaflow would help the sound?

I don't mean the exhaust diameter, I mean the physical size of the muffler.

It's pretty big, larger than the stock one for sure.

right, but it also has a larger pipe diameter, so the muffler needs to be larger to compensate.

anyway, adding a center muffler/glasspack should help significantly.

The muffler came with 2.5" in and out tips. I didn't use a reducer into it. It's 2.5" from the cat back... he just welded my flange onto it. It's definitely the right size for a 2.5" exhaust, and is bigger than the stock 318 muffler.

I'll have him put a glasspack in next week.

Similar size to this? It's a 22 inch 5x11" Mangaflow

I looked at it yesterday. It's way bigger than a stock m42 muffler

I'd definitely suggest a big glasspack or cherry bomb. If you're baller the Flowmaster hushpower mufflers are amazing too.
