thoughts on IE shorty headers? I know a lot of guys rip on IE for one reason or another, but these headers look like a nice and easy replacement for rusty/ugly/cracked stock exhaust mani's...
I would think the long tubes (BavAuto, Supersprint, eBay, etc) would make more of a difference on the powerband, but would any gains be expected with shorties?

eBay Motors makes it easy to find parts for cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles & more. We even offer a massive selection of new & pre-owned classics, hot rods, exotics, vans, ATVs, RVs, boats and more at eBay Motors. Shop for your next vehicle, or start selling in a marketplace with 171 million buyers.

I put ones like this on mine, definitely an improvement on the butt dyno. The only thing that saved me grief was a tape measure, grinder, and a mig welder. I moved the X pipe closer to the stock O2 sensor location and avoided having to splice the wire longer. They backed up their product, the seller gave me a $50 credit because the hedders didn't fit properly, IIRC zpeedstarz or something like that was the company i purchased from.

IIRC short tubes like upper rpm's. long tubes boost low-mid power.

nice little write up - barney style.. so in stock form, out motors would benefit more from a set of long tubes since they make most of their power in the low to mid range..
now it just comes down to fitment and quality of material used, welds, etc..

I just like being helpful. In my opinion i prefer the shorty's for high mid to top end. My particular engine pulls good low end as it is. I can do what's necessary to improve that by removing ballast, trunk tar, MSD, etc. The beauty of short hedders is when the pedal is on the board between gears, it feels like the torque increases and doesn't run out of power at the rev limiter, or like on the expressway in 5th gear and a good stomp doesn't require a downshift to put some satisfying power down. Ultimately the choice is yours, you seem to be quite knowledgeable. Sorry, im rambling. Friday night, i love my car.

Those are copies of the Stahl design (probably the best IMO). I think you should buy them and inform on the quality.

My dad has a set of legit stahl headers on the M10 in his e21. Definitely registered on the butt dyno. 3k - 6k is a whole lot more exciting. We had them off the car a few months back to get coated, and it was a night and day difference with the original manifold installed.

my guess is pretty low. The used Stahl headers ive seen for sale are usually dented up at the collector.

I wonder how shitty the collector is on the inside on those. The close up of the inlet on the #1 runner looks pretty crappy.

we put a set of of genuine Stahl long tube headers and a magna flow cat on my brothers m20b25. He could not afford a high perf muffler at the time. His only other engine mod is an unknown performance chip that came with the engine. His car definitely responded to the headers above four thousand rpm. We drove the car before and after the install and you could definitely tell it pulled better above four grand. Definitely an improvement you will feel. Tomorrow i'm picking up a set of ie shorties with 2 1/2 pipe back to some kind of performance muffler from another member here on r3v. Once installed ill report back with results.

So which brand is best for long tube headers with a o2 sensor bung. I'm assuming the "Race style" don't have o2 bungs?
