Need input re: what to do about my Remus

    Hey guys,

Kind of a weird topic. I bought a Remus new from BAV last summer. Beautiful piece, great sound. Only problem is - I don't know why I did this - but I went for the exhaust option w/ the larger tips. I guess I was feeling saucy that day.

Regardless, it looks terrible (IMO) on an early car because there is no rear apron. From dead center, it looks OK. Otherwise, though, I feel it just looks obnoxious. Picture to illustrate:

Now, I know this is subjective. I am a bit conservative in styling, and as it is, I am moving ever closer to trying to bring this car back to stock as much as possible w/ some upgrades - OEM+.

What should I do? Could I have an exhaust shop cut off the tips and weld something on that is less flashy/noticeable? Should I swap out the exhaust entirely?

I realize this is a bit of a cosmetic question, but if there is a way to use the Remus but just re-engineer the tips, I think that would be most cost-effective and hassle-free. I feel it does help the car perform quite a bit better (seat of the pants dyno), so I don't want to lose that. But maybe I'm imagining that!

    Thanks for your opinions.

    -Jeff

I dont think it looks 1/2 bad. If you do hate it, then yes cut them off and either get bolt ons, or diff wed on tips

Yeah, not a fan. Sorry. Don't mean to be a snob, but that's just not my thing.

Thanks for the input regardless. And if anyone has exhaust recommendations that are bit more subtle, I am all ears. May buy an Ansa locally given it looks nearly stock.

Thanks! I've seen it on the later cars and love it; just something about "hanging there" that gives me pause.

Also an option, but I'm hoping a competent exhaust shop can weld something new on there.

One style I always liked - I could have this wrong - were the teakettle spout style. I only know them as that because they look like the spot of a tea kettle pointed downwards.

Otherwise, I just want something more subdued. What kills me is Remus offered a smaller exhaust-tip size and I opted for the big pipes. Buyer's remorse!

What about trying to sale yours and buying the one with the smaller outlets ?

A solid idea, but more time consuming than I'd like. The car is a non-daily driver, so getting it off, getting a new one, hoping for a sale, etc. - just a lot of extra work.

If you decide to sell it, let me know. I need a new catback bad.

The big tips would look good on my late model 325is.
