I have 30k on my IE copy from ebay. I'm running the stock cat with a MM engine. It is VERY quiet compared to other exhausts. I love the sound and never hear any drone.
Luke, what cat are you running? and are you sure it is the same as the IE/IE copy?-tim

No, only the muffler is the same. It has gotten far worse in the last 20,000, BTW.
Mine is single 2.5" on a "free flow" cat, all ghettoed together by the PO.
Soon to be yanked!Comment

Philo, which one did you buy?Comment

So your exhaust goes from dual pipes from headers, merge at cat, and then separate to dual pipe into exhaust?
If that is so, the merger mid way through will add to the loudness of the exhaust - as will the "free flow" cat since it has a smaller body and less filtering than stock.-tim

Except the muffler is single 2.5" inlet
And yes, you are right, the smaller body cat makes it louder, plus will resonate at a higher frequency.Comment

If your muffler is a single inlet, I don't know how It can be an IE/IE copy. Maybe I missed something. . .-tim

Did I ever say mine was the same copy?
No, I didn't.
Mine is ebay, the same size and shape. The difference in piping isn't gonna make much difference, and certainly not gonna be 10 to 15 db difference...I think mine is just shot.Comment

Well we are discussing a specific exhaust. Your exhaust may be similar, but is not the same. I don't believe IE makes or sells a single inlet exhaust, so yours is neither an IE or IE copy. Lots of exhausts look the same, but the internals are different. And a single pipe makes a lot of db difference due to the firing order of the M20. The engine alternates pipes used through firing order so the air being pushed through is in pulses. This is done to make the I6 quieter. When you combine the pulses into one pipe it produces a much quicker pulse rate, therefore pushing the air out quicker and making the exhaust louder. There are numerous differences between your setup and the "stock" IE/IE copy being discussed.-tim

Single or dual will make hardly any difference in volume, but quite a difference in tone. Single exhausts are deeper sounding, assuming roughly the same surface area
Dual 1.75" vs. single 2.5" are roughly equivalent in effective surface area.
And "we" were discussing this exhaust, and my comments are a result of looking to replace mine, understand? This whole thing started with me bitching about how loud mine is and wondering if this was quieter.Comment

Maybe I'm the only one, but It seemed as though you were claiming to have the IE exhaust and dislike it. Other people's responses seemed to indicate the same thought I had. Sorry for the confusion. Continue on.-tim
