That's not very promising for your turbo future.

thank god too, a SOHC timing belt version of the M42? yuck. although the belt may actually be more reliable in this case than the chain. :p

In cases where the owner actually gets the car serviced yes. Unfortuantely most 318i these days are young blokes slappers or being driven around by the original owners who probably shouldn't be driving. The only time the belt gets replaced is when the headgasket gets blown.
