No. Hot exhaust contains more energy to spin the turbine. The compressor side that pressurizes the intake side is completely isolated from the "hot side." As the exhuast gasses cool, they lose energy and potential to spin the turbine.

Gasses condense as the cool down meaning lower volume. Reduced volume means increased lag time. Thats why i suggested ceramic coating inner and outer exhaust plumbing from the manifold back. Guess you could also header wrap everything too for super overkill. The e30 just does not have the undercarriage room to run all the plumbing in the proper size. Maybe s 2.25 from the headers to a small turbo (8psi) and 2" intercooler plumbing to the intake.

It's happened to my friend's bottom mount. :p

but then the officer gave him a fucking REF ticket for the "cone" filter coming out from under the engine bay to the top.

It must suck to live in Cali. Cops don't give crap about that over here.

My friend had to teach a cop what a turbo was and had to explain to him how his car doesn't have a turbo. Just headers and a factory airbox.

i am about to start up on designing a bottom mount turbo for my s50e30. I plan on making an adapter to bolt onto my ODBII headers that positions the turbo in an area in which it can fit. I do not have any parts or anything for sizing, but when I was last under my e30 there was plenty of room between the block and the frame rail. I plan on running a s54 oilpan that was modded for an 24v E30 M3, this pan was setup for a dry sump, but i believe it has enough volume to plug 2 of 3 bungs and use the other at the turbo oil drain. thoughts?

s50 bottom mount turbo manifolds can be had for $100-160. Seems like a lot of work to save $100, maybe.

oh ok. theres a difference between top and bottom mount manifolds right. meaning you cant just flip a top mount

If your motor came with those manifolds already then it wouldn't cost much to make an adapter.
Cops down here aren't stupid anymore if you have valves in your muffler they will assume your exhaust is too loud and your trying to cover up something. I don't bother anymore. I'd rather pay for a top mount that will look killer, perform better. Than messing around with scavenge pumps and a tcd manifold that is overpriced, ugly and won't flow as nice as a tubular 666 top mount manifold.
