Miatas here are modded with turbochargers as well.
I get pulled over for speeding but not because of the turbocharger.
They don't ask you to pop open your hood.

Cali is the worst when it comes to emissions but its not the worst as far as inspections. I'm so glad we don't have those like they have on the east coast.

That is not always so. I went in for an inspection in Vermont once, and the guy spent an hour looking over the car, pointing out this, that and the other thing. Guy even wrote up the oil leaks.

It all depends on the cop and if your acting like a dick. If you have 5 or more vehicle code violations they can impound the car. And they can use some pretty bullshit excuses like dirty license plate.

ricer taillights, cf trunklid, hood popped. :D

He probably just had shiny intake and purple cam gears.
Just don't be rice with your rims, little muffler, cf, or slammed ect

I have actually been in my friends wrx when he got pulled over and had to pop the hood. I guess it is all about the location and what cop pulls you over.

My buddy got pulled over in his STi too. Got pulled over for tinted windows, the cop had him pop his hood and slapped on the exhaust, intake, BOV, and intake manifold, and suspension to the ticket too. Turns out the cop didn't know that the red manifold is factory on the STi. Anyhow, after returning his car back to stock for the inspection, my buddy bead blasted his BOV so it's factory non-shiny, cut up his airbox so he can hide his CAI, and slapped his exhaust back on, raised his coils a tiny bit, kept the front tint off, and reset his COBB tuner back to where it was. No tickets since

It would have a special emissions sticker and new vacuum line diagram. Like the b7s do. I do plan on making a CARB legal kit as long as it does not cost me over $5k for the testing.
