A couple of my friends are running E85 on their boosted (high boost, high static compression) with some impressive results.
I am building a 3.2 M20 with a ported 3rd gen GM M90 blower, liquid to air intercooler, 17 psi max boost, blowing through dbilas ITB's (the throttle shafts will hold 25 psi without leaking) plus a large pile of other parts.
I have not ordered the pistons yet, and we were talking. I am wanting to run 9.5:1 static and after some brain storming I was thinking I could get away with 10:1 or 10.5:1 VERY safely running E85.
Here is a little info on E85.........
it is the equivalent of running C116 race gas for a fraction of the cost. Right now the average cost of E85 is $2.35 a gallon. Super unleaded is $3.09 and up and only 91octane.
You need to run 30% more injector with E85 over gas because it is physically larger than gas.
You will loose about 1/3 of your range because it is bigger, but you will gain efficient from the cleaner more complete burn. So it is almost a wash.
Almost no tailpipe emissions because of the clean burning nature of E85.
There are enough people running it now that the fears that it would dissolve all rubber parts are not a concern like was initially thought.
With an E30, you can run a pair of walburo 255lph pumps (1internal, 1inline ) and have more then enough flow and pressure.
Significantly lower engine temps because of the cooler burn of the alcohol.
Anyways, I am very seriously concidering doing this and we were looking and what would have to be replaced to make it work. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it yet.
