    PSCOI's m50 turbo build

    Bowshingla everyone,

alright here is the story, I bought a 87 325e with a nv m50 swap, from some one on this forum actually, about a year ago, did all the usual stuff, suspension, wrecked it into a tree, lsd, exhaust, interior swap, plastic bumpers
Now I want to boost it, I plan on keeping this as budgeted as possible while still doing some things "right".
I started this project on new years day. I'll be asking questions, posting pictures, and ranting right inyah.

Here is a list of parts I have so fa
    r
    Good&Tight manifold
Volvo turbo + little adapter doodad
    Ebay fmic kit
    mls .140 head gasket
    all new engine gaskets
    ARP studs
ebay 44mm wingchong wastegate 7 psi
    ebay bov
    e36 m3 clutch & flywheel
    oil drain fitings
oil pan, front cover, rear main, and tranny seals
    some 3inch exhaust pipe

    I still need to buy

    MegaSquirt from blueapplesoda
    Injectors
    oil feed lines
    gauges
    wideband

I originally did not plan on doing the mls gasket or porting the head but after checking everything over mine turned out to be leaky
Im also not sure what numbers to expect with what I have so any estimates would be nice.
    Here have some photos!

    Car in question

I will be posting the rest of my progress soon so stay tuned

That wastegate is actually remarkably fine.

          Haha thats awesome ^^^
even though the wastegate is the preferred cheap one i still wonder if i should aim for higher boost levels?
I mounted the IC lower although i know that between the headlights is probably better and less work, call it the rice boy in me
Also pulled the tranny, oil pan, and replaced the rear main seal

Upon pulling the transmission I found some debris in the bell housing (this was making a crunchy gargly sound during heavy braking)and a clutch that was in surprisingly good shape after the 3k drops and clutch kicks I've put into it

The clutch never disengaged properly, id have to really shove the pedal to the wall to shift. I bought it this way thinking id fix it asap and im just now getting to it
My theory was that I had the wrong release arm, so I called up Zionsville for information and ended up having them send me a m3 clutch and flywheel and the release arm they know is proper.
after receiving the correct release arm from Zionsville (great guys that know their stuff by the way) and realizing it is the same as the one i already had, My new theory is that the flywheel was wrong and should have been dual mass all along, the clutch and flywheel stack up much thicker now
this should allow the clutch to engage sooner

I also never had reverse lights so i found a connector that would work and wired it in

Nice you will enjoy it once your done. 7psi is fun but 14psi is way better.

What do you guys think this setup will make on 10 psi? I really want to make something reliable out of this, I searched ebay but found no 44mm wyntonm 10 psi springs, any suggestions?
Alright this thread is caught up with where I am at now, yesterday i got the pan back on, and the transmixer put back together with the new clutch and flywheel, and bolted the drive shaft back up
The clutch disengages around 75% and has a small dead section at the top, id like to take that slack out and get it to release around 50%
Today ill be putting the head back on so I should have pictures of that soon

I'd keep the spring a run a manual boost controller adjusted to 10psi.
Also I'd get the head resurfaced help the MLS seal better. On the 24v motors I've heard its a real pita to get MLS to seal nicely most guys get the head and block resurfaced with the smoothest finish possible.

I mounted the pan back up and i am not really a fan of the way the drain sits, so ill probably swap the fitting for a 90.
Also just got the head mounted back up, arps and mls on, I think my motor is officially non-interference now haha

I had to beat the frame away a little bit to get the mani to fit

The turbo is off of a 2.4 liter 5 cylinder volvo, I think this should be the right size to have quick spool and ill be oil and water cooling it to make it last, plus it was a freebie so you cant go wrong
I took the turbo apart today to create a block off plate where the internal bov was, I did this by tracing the bov on to some thick sheet metal and cutting it out with the sawzall , ill be finding a gasket to slip in between it and the turbo to insure legitimacy
