Mason, in the kindest way possible, I don't think this is a good idea.

    Reasoning:
    - This car is your only mode of transportation.
    - Your budget is only $800.
    - You expect the used engine to run indefinitely with a turbo without blowing up.
    - Based on your questions I'm assuming you have not done a turbo setup before.

This is not a recipe for success, while I can appreciate your enthusiasm (as we have all been there before) it could be better aimed at something to give you more understanding and experience (like starting a rebuild on a spare M10).

i appreciate your kindness and can imagine how this looks, i want do a top end rebuild on a spare m10. but i feel a whole engine rebuild would be a lot harder then a turbo.

yes, it is. Have any evidence to the contrary? Plenty of factory cars run that much boost sans intercooler.

Ebay is good for *some* parts, but you should stay away from kits and chinachargers especially. I've heard some are ok once they're professionally balanced, but even then you're losing the safety net a name brand turbo provides should it self destruct.

Here's another good resource for piping & couplers

If you can find a volvo 240 turbo in the junkyard, they have massive intercoolers with a 2.5" inlet & outlet. It *almost* clears the e30 radiator but some modification will need to be done.

From a guy who just rebuilt his M10 and turboed it, i can say that rebuilding an m10 is super easy and takes 2~3 days easily. Then to turbo with such a small budget took me ALOT longer. Just my .02

im going to rebuild the top half and do a cam for sure might add some other "goodies" while im at it im doing this for the experience and also for reliably reasons as im going to upgrade some of the week links on the m10 so it can handle the turbo better ( future proofing it basically). so thats what im going to focus on right now i want to do some more reserch on a few things for the rebuild but im feeling pretty confident it will go well. im going to do some searches and see what i but i might have a new thread in a few days on the m10 link if i have more questions ( which will probably happen can never have to much info) but thanks to everyone who gave me there to cents cause it helped out a lot.

Lesson one on DIY turo builds: if you are doing it on your only car, you are doing it wrong.

Quite simply, if you can't afford to either have a second car, or deal with your only car being broken for months on end, you can't have a turbo.

                It's just a bad idea.

If it is your only car & u have a vague idea of what your doing dont start tearing into your motor. At least make sure u have a back up plan or get your bus pass ready. Check into the m10 knowledge thread. Should at least give u an idea of what your up against.

Knowing is half the battle! Goooooo Joe!

big +1. This stuff doesn't happen overnight and there are always bugs to work out, even with kits. Just recently I had a plug vibrate itself loose on my wastegate which created a massive vacuum leak and non-functional WG. All sorts of little stuff happens that's enough to take a car off the road, and this is when it all goes well.

Not gonna bum you out, but if you are going to rebuild the top end, and plan of upgrading, your budget is already spent. For example, Double Valve Springs/Retainer, Intake and Exhaust valves (may not be needed, mine made friends with the pistons), and Rocker Locks ran $450 just for the parts, machine work was another $450, but I'm pretty overbuilt with ambitious goals. I will also be upgrading my rockers and cam later, so when it's all said and done, probably about $1500 in the top end. You also need to factor some other parts like an aftermarket clutch, those aren't cheap (figure about $300). I'm not against you going turbo, I just think you need to realistically price things out. I would also hate for you to blow your engine by making a silly mistake.
