Going to test out the eBay kit

Maybe I've got a little more faith in the "engineers" who make these kits, or maybe it's just because I'm a broke college student (love using that excuse) but I am going to buy the eBay kit. First I'm budgeting it to see what it will cost and here is what I've got (keep in mind this is in worse case scenario buying all new).

    TL;DR

Buying eBay kit, is my list complete?

Will these oil lines be good or should I get different ones? Do I need an oil cooler / catch can?

I expect to upgrade the turbo, blow off valve, and wastegate down the line but keep in mind I'll be running safe / moderate boost (7 psi).

good luck. I'm not sure i'm sold on the miller war chip. Also if you want the miller turbo base tune and another map on the miller software thats another $250. You could probably still run it fine. Just something to know.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

As in you have to pay for the initial base map tune or do you mean something else?

Slip of judgement, I'll update the excel sheet. Good call.

I thought MS wasn't plug and play - requires splicing / soldering blah blah.. Most of the threads I searched in were circa 2008 so it may have been MS2 rather than MS3 but essentially I want to do as little "electrical" work as possible and just do bolt-ons. From what I've read, the WAR chip just plugs into the ecu like a normal chip, and the MAF just bolts on. The only "wiring" that has to be done is the wideband.

Because Metric Blues are more along the lines of $14 for 5.

Also, you can get an AEM wideband on ebay for $160-170, so that'll save you a few bucks too. I would also try to source the injectors used, that is if you truly are a broke college student like me ;) And I would read http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74816 <---that. I think you could piece together a setup for much cheaper if you individually source all the parts and wait for good deals. I am doing that and have saved a lot of money.

The LC-1 is about $150 on eBay I was just pricing this out to WORST CASE scenario type deal. Realistically it'll probably be 25% cheaper. What are you doing for a management system? WAR or MS?

Yeah, good plan. Prepare for the worst & hope for the best, that's how it should be on turbo builds :p Engine management? I was thinking of running stock motronic with a custom chip. Maybe...if things go according to plan that is;) I would pick MS over WAR though if I had an option. It's a big learning curve, but from what I hear, it does pay off.

I don't expect to track this car - plus this would be my first turbo build and there is already a huge learning curve as it is.

Awesome, you might be the first purchase for my build.

I also want to seafoam the motor and get a couple new gaskets here and there.

Get a plug n play ms unit. They do come plug n play (crazy I know!)

Get an AEM UEGO afr guage, its cheaper and doesnt have to be calibrated

msd coil is also worthless it wont help you at all.

Oh yeah and change your head gasket and get ARP studs. Youll thank me later.

EDIT: actually go read and research for a few months, then come back and give us a real parts list that doesnt include ebay crap :)

Just sayin, 7psi is only safe if it stays at 7psi. I would upgrade your wastegate from the get-go.

From what it looked like online, MS had to be soldered to the ecu. Glad to know the coil is worthless. The world is ending December 21st, aint nobody got time for research. I've got friends that'll help me along the build so I'm not too worried in my lack of experience. The reason I'm going w/ eBay ish is because it's cheap and I just want to get boost fast. They say choose three (fast, reliable, cheap) I choose reliable and cheap.

WAR has a base tune at 6 psi that I hear is really sturdy, I'd just give that a shot. Why do you suggest upgrading the wastegate from the start?

Lulz You chose cheap. Ebay is not reliable at all. And get on diyautotune.com they make a ms that plugs into the motronic connector. (hits plug n play) Not doing research and just jumping in is gonna bite you in the butt. But its your car
