Help please on M20 turbo build, starting from scratch

I have read and read but I am having a problem putting the puzzle together, so I have made a list of questions. Please help.

    Car: 1986 325es
Engine: 2.7, balanced with Super eta pistons (notched a little more), 885 head, milled .05", thermal coated valves.
I have Megasquirt and 3 coil gm wasted spark already.

    Questions:

Exhaust Manifold? Adaptor mounted to the original iron units or full tubing? Brand?

I do not understand split pulse.

Turbo brand and size? I am leaning more towards driveablility (This is not a track car).

    Intercooler or ethanol, water injection?

Head bolts are stock. Must I change them and how about the head gasket?

    Injector size?

    Fuel pump?

Exhaust: I do not want a loud car. Resonator and original muffler?

Engine has adjustable cam gear: A good place to start?

Thoughts that I have not hit on would be appriciated.

    Thanks for any help provided
    Chuck

    FIRST: decide your power goals?

then you'll know weather you need a head studs or not, what size injectors, what turbo, etc...

      Start HERE

Then read a few build threads HERE

Should cover most if not all of your questions and save you money.

Many people run a HOLSET hx35, there is a good reason why. It is a divided entry turbo, but a split pulse manifold is not needed as a simple t3 flange will work. Injectors from what I hear is a good idea for cc's to match how much power you want (ie, 440cc injectors for 400hp). Run a stock head gasket with ARP studs, it's a proven combination. Run a front mount intercooler and upgrade your fuel pump to a wahlbro unit as to not strain it. Exhaust you can figure out on your own. Now do some research and you will find your questions have ALL been answered time and time and time again.

I try hard not to bias someone when I ask a question.

Example: I like green, what color should I paint my car?

I try to ask questions to see what people can contribute, not to show what I know. So, it may make me look dumb

              Thanks,
              Chuck

Exhaust Manifold? Adaptor mounted to the original iron units or full tubing? Brand? doesn't matter both will get you boosted reliably

I do not understand split pulse.

Turbo brand and size? I am leaning more towards driveablility (This is not a track car).
Use a brand name turbo, preferably NEW not used if reliability is a concern. .63-.68A/R will produce a real quick spool

                Intercooler or ethanol, water injection?
intercooler+ water injection keeps things safe

Head bolts are stock. Must I change them and how about the head gasket?
stock gasket and bolts are good to around 12psi anything more and you should do ARP head studs and a fresh OEM gasket.
                Injector size?
                60lbers
                Fuel pump?
New stock works fine on my car all the way to 23psi

Exhaust: I do not want a loud car. Resonator and original muffler?
turbos quiets things down quite a bit, stock sized muffler will keep things quiet.

Engine has adjustable cam gear: A good place to start?
                not really needed

Thoughts that I have not hit on would be appriciated.

                Thanks for any help provided

                  Good thoughts

Thanks for the help. I bought 2 books and am reading now. Also thanks for the specific recommendations. Spring will be in the air soon (I am a dreamer) and hope to have the installation finished after the salt has been washed from the steets by a nice fresh rain.

Hey Chuck. I did not mean to be rude. My bad if it came across like I was.
Hope that book helps out. When you get to actually building the turbo system, I'd love to read a build thread and see how you tackle the build.

                      Cheers
