This may be a dumb question...

but here goes. What would be wrong with plumbing a turbo in line with the oilcooler setup instead of tapping the pan for a return line? Couldn't you just feed the turbo from the filter housing then through the cooler and back into the block?

well there is an oil thermostat that is in the oil filter housing that control flow through the oil cooler, so until that opens there would be no oil flow through the turbo. also, the turbo drain wants no pressure so that oil will not back up into the turbo and be burned. if you took the oil from the turbo feed and added it to the oil cooler line there would probably be too much pressure.

It really isnt that hard to take the pan off and drill it. It makes all the plumbing easy too. If you use a 666 manifold adaptor than you can use your stock oil filter housing. Ebay manifold require a relocation kit and an aftermarket cooler.

      Just drill the fucking pan.

      Trust me.

I tried to think of every damn way around it, but its just proven that drilling into the pan is the easiest way.

        That makes sense.

What if one were to ditch the oil cooler gut the thermostatic part of the oil filter housing and just run the turbo lines in and out from there?

You have an m42 right? Dropping the pan is a little easier no?

You can drill it without dropping it.

In fact I think thats how Dinan and some other company does it for their turbo setups.

dude, it isnt that hard to pull the pan on an M20. and do not do it in the car-- you are just asking for failure-- just do it right.

Load up the bit with grease.

                      Drill slow.

                      Drain oil.

Refill with oil + Magnetic drain plug.

                      Shake car around without starting.

                      Drain oil.

I just read a portion of your "turbo build" thread and there is no way in hell I'm listening to anything you say involving...well anything really.

or you could save the hassel and just drop the pan...
and not have to worry about missing any shavings
