    S14 itbs on m10?

Doesn't sound like a crazy idea. Is it possible first of all & what would I need to do?! Just a thought.. Anyone want to elaborate?

Yes, it can be done. A friend of mine is putting s14 throttles on his m10 for his '69 2002 race car. I helped him out with the fabrication.

It was alot of work. And his car posed some unique challenges as his motor is mounted completely vertical not an angle as bmw motors typically are. Essentially I cut the flange off an e30 318i intake and then cut the flange off the s14 throttles and welded them together. Not the easiest thing to do with two pieces of cast aluminum by the way. Because of the way his engine is mounted both pieces were cut on a slight angle to make sure the throttles came straight off the head. Alot of other little things had to be modified but I can't even remember them all.

Shouldn't have those issues in the e30. I see u ran short stacks instead of the s14 bull horns. I suspect just for clearance issues? Thanks 4 the info. I need more!! I was wondering if this setup would still work with the Ljet also. Btw how we're the gains? Was the m10 a 2.0?

I'm thinking this type of setup would be pointless on Ljet.

Sorry guys, What I posted earlier is pretty much all the info I have. I was only responsible for the fabrication element of it which was a chore in itself.

My friend is taking care of everything else. I don't know much about the motor but I do know most of what he does and his gains won't be relevant for most of you guys. It is a dedicated race motor, very high compression, extremely aggressive cam, dry sump oiling, and aftermarket efi.

Yea it would be. Just a thought if it would be a possible plug & play setup.

This is a local friend in Western Australia. He's building an M10 block and mating with S14 head/throttles.

                Have a read. ;)

Anything CAN be done. But why botch a 16 valve manifold onto an 8 valve motor?

Why not use 8 valve manifolds from, say, an Alfa? The SPICA throttle bodies are about
Weber 40dcoe size, and look the part.

                  Or a bike?

Or ANYTHING that has round(ish) ports, not the ovals of a 4- valve head?

                  t
now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Once you cut off the flange on the s14 throttles the runner shape is an excellent match to the m10 flange. Which isn't really round(ish) at all. Here is a picture of how good of a match they are.

Not to mention the many other advantages that a set of s14 throttles have in comparison to using something from a bike or another manufacturer. The fact that they already have a throttle linkage designed to work in our chassis, meaning you won't have to fabricate your own. The built in provisions for an ICV and TPS. And lets not forget that the center to center spacing of the ports is the same as an m10.

Retro-fitting ITB's is no simple task. However I doubt you will find anything that can be fitted to an m10 more easily than s14 throttles.

Plug and play? Many people wish it were that simple. Must be one hell of an m10.

Well found a vid on YouTube. Supposedly s14 itbs on m10 running L-jet.
