^----repost, but I think it should be listed twice. If you can't learn everything you need to know from that site, then you probably shouldn't be trying to modify/maintain your m10

I have done a few turbo builds. My current race car is a turbo m10 with 48mm ITBs 292 cam and a 60 trim t3. MSnS extra. I have been driving and racing m10 engines for 15 years. Check out my shop web site Stephensmotorworks.com

I've got a boost question. I know the older 2liter blocks are mostly forged. Would I be able to just throw a 318 head on the 2liter block & boost with stock internals? Does the 318 head on 2l block have lower compression with stock sized head gasket?

This has been covered many times on every m10 related forum out there search. Short answer: it bolts up, lower compression, incorrect combustion chamber for pistons.

Didn't even need to google, I have a built thread for this. I'm running a 2.0L block with Piano Pistons and a 318i head. No issues, good increase in torque (I actually notice it, could be because the new rings/bearings) but I need to give it a cam, and throw some boost at it.

Solo318: How do you like the 292 cam? Is it driveable in the lower RPM range?

For sure il check it out. Im looking at a similar setup. Are u planing to upgrade to m20 throttle body? Are you going to change up to arp headbolts & mls gasket 4 turbo? Or are u going to boost as is? Why did u opt for the piano tops rather than the flat top pistons? I hear good things from the 284/292 cams when it comes to boost. When it comes down to like 316 cams or hot cams in general there is no power under 4k NA. So wouldn't be very street able. Or reasonable for a DD Boost, but at the same time I hear that in some cases stock cam is best for boost

I will run studs, but leave the stock HG until I get the tune down solid. I would rather blow a headgasket than a cylinder. I bought the shortblock with the pistons already in it. Decided I would give it a try. I will be leaving the stock m10 throttle body on there.

Das interesting. Good point bout the HG. Il keep that in mind when I do my build. What did your block come out of? 2002 I assume? I think the 320 block had flat tops & I could source flat tops out of an m30. What is your compression at? Oh and aren't you worried the m10 tb would be a bottle neck? I think it is like 44mm compared to the m20 60mm & they have adapters available.

Duration is generally not good for boost, but lift is. Obviously you need the motor to flow a little if you're forcing air into it, but this is the reason a factory cam sometimes is better. Most options for M10 cams are for NA, which work "okay" for turbo applications. Some people have done the schrick 304 and turbo, but for myself I plan on sticking to the factory cam. If you have a big turbo and it needs to spool, then matching the cam with it might be something to consider.
