Can I make my m10 rev higher?

Hey so my sister and I each have an 85 318i e30. The only difference is that hers is a coupe. While I prefer the practicality of the 4 door, the way it runs is much different. The main difference in that the coupe revs a lot higher than mine, once I hit 3000 or so revs my engine is screaming to change gears. I understand that the coupe is the sports model and tuned differently and lighter cause 2 doors less, but is there any way that I can have my engine tuned to rev higher similar to the coupe?

I would think it probably has more to do with gearing then making the engine rev higher.

I'm not familiar with all the m10 variations down under but when I dropped the valve clearances on my m10 from .010 to .008 it may an enormous difference to my top end.....As in I actually a had one :D

Maybe you need to adjust something (timing, lash, spark, fuel) as my carbureted M10 in a 2002 revs to 7k just fine.

You can pretty safely push a stock M10 to about 6700 all day on stock valve springs.

If you uprate the springs, 7500 is pretty reasonable.

If you uprate the springs and rockers, 9k is probably about the limit.

You have an engine problem, or your tach's reading wrong.

In an E30, you can let it hit the rev limiter between shifts and you won't hurt it.

It should be making 'best power' from about 3500 through 5500, all else being the same.

Oh, in Oz, are you sure you both have the same engines? You guys got M40's and M42's
              before we did.

How do I change my valve clearances? I was told the reason was my internal fuel pump had low pressure, changed that and still no difference. It may be tachometer considering everything except the speedo stopped working the other day

I'm positive it's an m10. Are you sure I have an engine problem? It runs fine at low revs, just starts to miss once hit 3000 revs. There's a bmw specialist near me, should I take to him and just ask for a tune? Or is the problem likely to be more serious?

I think you should check your engine. It's sound like some problems if you can't rev it up to 6500. I've the m10 too and rev just fine all the way to max.

Yup, something's wrong. Fuel pressure, ignition problems, start with the basic stuff
