your icv could be on backwords? thats what was wrong with mine also spray some carb cleaner in there and use q-tips tp clean it

well since this guy ^^^ bumped this age old thred I might as ask... can i use a ICV from a eta? My m10's idle is at 3k , the headers are glowing red, I found out my ICv is stuck open. Theres a rip in the hose to the ICV that sucks air in. If I open the rip bigger the idle goes down and the power range works fine. Also I unplugged the ICV and nothing changed. just an idea b4 i goto yards and look for a rare m10 icv.

I'm having an idling issue right now (sometimes fine at 700-800, sometimes high at ~1200, sometimes jumps from 700-1200 as if someone's pressing and letting go of the gas continuously)... when I unplugged the ICV RPMs jumped to about 2000-2500 for 2 seconds, then went down to normal idle, maybe a bit less... does this mean it should be cleaned?

As for the penny trick, does the penny go into the hole that's perpendicular to the ICV or the hole coming out of one end of it?

          Thanks
          Ivan

Same problem here. but when unplugging the ISV it didnt idle as high as you mention. My exhaust has rusted off behind the car so i think loss of back pressure may also have an effect on the idle problem. but probably not the entire cause to it.

I have been checking for vacuum leaks but cant find anything. I should replace all the lines to be sure

I might have solved it, or at least made it better, by cleaning the ICV, throttle body and the intake box and also seafoam in gas tank as well as intake manifold.

BTW... how important is the little plastic piece that goes inside the filter housing? I took it out when I cleaned everything and forgot to put it in when reinstalling.. car runs fine but wanna make sure...

Reviving this old ass thread. I just got an m10 that had an erratic idle but was buttery smooth above 3500 so I did the penny trick and it now sits at 900 rpm idle so I can confirm my ICV was/is dead. I found that the ideal size was between 1/4 and 1/8 for the hole.

While the car is running, take something like a screwdriver and give the icv a few taps and if the idle starts skipping around just replace that because that's what seemed to do it for me. Good luck
