I'm feeling the need to spend some money and make the car a little quicker and hopefully improve overall driveability. Currently the engine is an M20 w/ shrick cam (284/272) ie shorty headers, no cat, supersprint exhaust w/ a 173 ecu (unchipped). What do you guys recommend and why (personal experience). I previously had a J.C. chip in my 153 ecu and liked it but want thoughts about other options. All input is appreciated. Thanks!

my vote, unless you really want to learn everything about running an engine with EFI, stick with a chip.

I'm not that dedicated.... yet. Maybe someday I'll attempt that but right now w/ all the stuff I'm doing, I'd probably get pissed off and my car would become lawn art;) A chip setup is definately the most simple but I'm still gathering info before I drop any cash (like the $250 I spent on a Conforti chip before I realized that a 173 ecu would fix 99% of my idle issues) Thats why I'm in the market for another chip upgrade:hitler: An excellent reason why people should search and gather info!

i know im late and i read the date of the last post but ill pitch in anyways
go the miller way. get the maf and chip package deal. its about $100 more then any of the other chips and you get a plug and play maf conversion + a reprogrammable chip that holds 4 tunes. if you don't want to tune it you can ask miller for a custom tune and/or get the chip from them pretuned with a basic tune. there is also a forum where members can upload their tunes for other members to download and put on their chip. not to mention miller is working on upgrades and future products to augment their chip.sigpic

alot of cost is in getting the correct map via proper tuning, not everyone can tune a car correctly so factor this into the price if your engine specs deviate much from one of the already developed maps...........89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...
