    Odd Rocker Arm Wear

I'm taking my head apart to get something unrelated fixed on it (f'ing valve cover studs ). Never taken a head apart. PO said he bought the head "rebuilt". Things look pretty clean but I have no idea what was done. Rocker arms are generally clean but many of them have this odd chipping on one edge. Is this ok? I don't know much about surfaces and whether this will lead to a crack propogating and damage to the cam or failure. Pics to follow

Pics. I think something like 5/6 exhaust and 3/6 intake have them. Mostly on one side, oddly the left side of each arm, so the side facing the front of the car for the exhaust and the rear of the car for the intake.

Cam looks ok, minor pitting on a couple of lobes and a single groove in one of the “bearings” (not sure what you call the non-bearing surfaces in the head) indicative of something maybe getting stuck in there.

Rocker arms are stamped Febi, but I’ve never seen a rocker arm up close before so I wouldn’t know what to look for

Oddly the rocker arm shaft end plate also has some wear from some kind of axial force (to the rocker shaft).

Post up a couple of cam pics-

what's going on with the rockers makes it look like the cam is microwelding
to the pads and 'plucking' bits of metal out of them.
That's not a typical Febi feature, but
it IS indication of low oil flow/lubricity.
How's your oil 'spray' bar doing?
          Oil pressure?

No matter how you color it, it looks like new part$$ are in your future...

Thanks for the help, I've been googling everything and haven't been able to figure out what this may be.

The oil spray bar is the only part of the head with the bronze colored oil stain you see on older heads, so maybe it's original. I'll have to spray some carb cleaner or something in it to see what comes out.

One of the cam lobes is worse than i noticed originally. You can also see the groove in one of the journals.

Oil spray bar tested good and although I wasn't paying attention at the time, the nuts on the bar weren't excessively loose when removed it. Perhaps I have other oil pressure issues.

ok, so the lash was waaaayyyyy too tight for it to wear on the back side- usually, there's a film of oil
deposition on the normally 'non- contact' side of the lobe.

Regrind or replace for cam, new rockers, and yes, an oil pressure gauge would be a very good idea!
Run a high- zddp oil, too- 1200- 1800 ppm, conventional for cam break in, then synthetic's good.

That makes sense, when I adjusted the valves I noticed the exhaust especially was astonishingly tight. At first I thought I was measuring it wrong but then when I got it done I realized how bad it was. Then the valve cover stud snapped before I torqued it, it must have been torqued past yield previously. This car is a piece of work. Thanks for the advice!
