    Timing belt issue

Hey guys, i am trying to install my new timing belt and the cam mark is slighty retarded when the cranck mark is tdc after 2 revolutions (both marks were tdc when i took out the old one). I repeted the process several times by moving the cam to tdc independently of the cranck, reinstall the belt and the problem persistes. What may be the problem? What can i try to fix this? Thank you.

sometimes the angle you look at it throws it off. it's easy to be off by a tooth. if it's less than a tooth you may be lined up.

If you are in fact off by a tooth (again it's easy to think you're off the mark depending on angle) reinstall the belt. My way always works for me: wrap belt around crank pulley keeping some tension, wrap the belt around the intermediate gear then cam gear and lastly the tensioner. Keeping some tension is the trick as too much rotates the cam or even crank but too little and you have an extra tooth worth of belt somewhere aka misaligning timing marks during rotation phase.
