    fuel system woes

thought i had a bad fuel pump as the pump would stop at random, and then if i smacked the cover it would start back up. pretty interesting when you're tooling along the freeway to have the car motor die.

so i install a brand new oem pump, and the problem is still there. its like the pump will create enough fuel pressure to start the car, but then quit pumping and starve the motor.

fyi the feul pump relay is brand new as well.

    dme relay?

Replace the main and fuel pump relay. If the problem is still present use a test light or meter to find out if power at the pump is going away. If it isn't, pull the pump and see it there's a layer of sediment in the bottom of the tank. If there is it may be getting sucked up onto the inlet screen and choking off flow.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        both relays are new.
problem still there with a new main relay

should the ICV "buzz" with the ignition key on?

            ok, update
the fuel pump will initially pressurize the system as the car will start as normal and idle smoothly.
it then dies as apparently the fuel pump i guess is not operating other than the initial pressurization sequence.
once the car starts, what sensor(s) then takes over and operates the pump?

            TIA

the ECU keeps the relay grounded as long as it sees a crank signal, there are no other requirements.

so the crank position sensor, otherwise known as the pulse generator, may be the culprit, or a ground gone bad?

if the sensor was that bad then it probably wouldn't start at all. you can test it, supposed to be 540ohms +/-. Grounds or a bad ECU seem more likely.
