    Rainy Day in GA

Today I was driving home from lunch with the wife, it was raining very hard but the roads were draining nicely. In hard rain with clear roads the car runs like usual smooth and problem free. I made it most of the way home only 4 miles left to go, when I hit a puddle, the car went nuts the engine loss almost all power and the exhaust made all kinds of weird popping sounds. When I got home I pulled into the garage and checked the intake to see if it was taking on water it was not so started to check the engine bay for loose or frayed wires the quick search yielded 0 results. Does any one have any ideas of what the problem/s could be? Maybe the oxygen sensor shorting out or something?

You might have splashed water up onto the ignition wires. Old ignition parts can result in misfires when wet.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

my car did this when I washed the engine and water was standing where the plugs meet the wires.

Check the fuel injector plug located on the side of the engine directly under the throttle body. It doesn't like to get wet.

Check the catalytic converter too!!! Several years ago I ran thru a street section where the water was 4" deep. My converter was owrn out and had holes. After slowly traversing this deep water (to avoid getting the engine wet) the damn converter filled with water and sputtered badly before dying.

When I got the car up on a rack, the converter was full of water. Went ahead and bought a new one after that.
