    cracked intake boot or ICV?

My car is hesitating really bad when its idling it will idle at 1500 sometimes 2000 I cleaned the ICV and the same thing happens. When I first bought it the PO had the holes where the ICV went plugged. It worked like that fine for awhile but then it started hesitating and then die on me while I was driving. I took off the intake boot and it has a lot of cracks in it possible holes could this maybe be the problem? Or do i need to buy a new ICV?

    Oh and i have an 89 325i m20

Try locating a good condition intake boot first and give that a test (real easy to replace). I had something similar happen to me once....there was a crack large enough to push through a quarter with ease and the car idled and ran like crap because of it. Replacing it solved everything.

Good time to check all clamps and clean everything up while you're in there.

Ditto on Jon325i's comment to replace the boot. Mine idled poorly with a cracked intake boot.

spraying starting fluid around the boot, if it has a vacum leak, it will pull it in, and the engine will rev, thats how we find intake adn other leaks
