    dumb question about Seafoam application

:eeek: So I'll admit up front this is a duh-oh question.... I've read about folks using 1/3 of a can of Seafoam thru vacuum lines. Which vacuum line are we talking about, and how is it done? Do you pour it into the line slowly, or let the vaccum line suck it up or what? I have read also that there is a possibility of dissolving gaskets if more than 1/2 of a can is used thru the intake.

So before I go out and mess something up, I thought some folks with Seafoam experience could set me straight and wouldn't ding me too bad for asking some bonehead questions...:eeek:

There is a small vacuum line going from the fuel pressure reg to the intake manifold. Unplug that and insert it into the can let the vacuum pull the fluid out of the can.

It is recommended to use 1/3 can into the intake and the rest in the gas tank.

Keep the rev's up so the motor doesn't die, suck the fluid in, then turn the car off plug the vacuum line back in and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Then fire it back up and smoke the neighbors out! You're done.

Thanks guys!!! I'm hoping the Seafoam will help take a slight hitch out of my idle giddyup. Has anyone heard of 1/3 of a can dissolving any gaskets? Intake or headgaskets?

I've used it for years and have never had any problems.

It would be nice to have one of those containers with a valve in it. The ones the "pros" use. We had em at UTI and Firestone used something similar. I've heard of people that supposedly hydrolocked their engine by just letting the vacuum suck it out of the bottle (probably rumors, but you never know ), but I've done it that way on both E30's without problems. I did a full can into the manifold on the 325e by dipping the hose into the can for a second and pulling it back out, over and over.

The funnest part is leaving massive clouds of smoke around your neighborhood. After I came back home, my neighbor was like "I think there's something wrong with your car!" :nice:

I've Seafoam'd dozens of cars. Usually use 1/2 can but even a full can won't hurt if you feel it needs it.

Then you of all people should know it doesn't do shit.

I'll post pics of the tops of my cylinders after running this garbage through my engine only a few months prior, if you want.

I'd be interested in seeing that. For the record, the last time I had to smog the E30 (June 2008 ), I put one entire can of Seafoam into the tank and syphoned a second full can through the vaccum line as detailed above. This, along with a fresh oil change and swapping back in the stock chip got my car to pass. Barely - but it passed.

BTW - the motor is a M20B25 with 209K miles on the clock. Still a strong runner.

Actually, you're wrong. It does do shit, and that's why we use it on so many customer cars.

Do you expect it to take off 23 years of garbage? Ain't going to happen.

Well, I Seafoamed my baby last evening. Disconnected the O2 sensor in case the carbon deposits might screw with the sensor. Poured 1/3 of the can into a Ball Mason jar, took a sip myself for gook luck, then with the car cranked I pulled the vacuum line and let it sip little gulps of the white lightning from the Mason jar. I kept one hand on the accelerator cable to rev the engine a bit when it tried to bog out. When the jar was empty I let the car sit for 10 minutes.

For good measure I had myself a second sip of Seafoam, then poured 2 more ounces into the Mason jar and repeated the process. Let THAT application sit for another 10 minutes, then poured the remaining Seafoam into a full tank of 93 octance gas. ( I have a chip.)

Then I started her up and like Gomer Pyle says "Shaazaamm".

The area between the driveway and the street looked like a special OPs team had dropped smoke and teargas bombs. The rear of the car spewed out stink bombs. I reconnoitered the area and dropped many strategic F-bombs. I think I injured my carbon footprint. While I was assessing my damaged footprint the neighbor came outside and retaliated with a set of tactical F-bombs.

When I took it out for a spin it was still unloading metric tons of smoke and people behind me were scared of possible bombs. But after about 4 miles the car seemed to have much smoother/stronger pull, and at stops and intersections the little hitch in my idle giddyup was gone.

I'd like to thank all the little people who made yesterday afternoon possible. Let me send you a free F-bomb, shipping at my expense. My carbon footprint is still swollen and throbbing so it may be a few days before I can put your free F-bombs in the mail.
