    Removing fuel injectors, I'm stuck. 1991 325i

Sorry if the text is hard to read in the pictures.

I am removing my fuel injectors. I have removed the 4 bolts for the fuel rail. and at this point I am stumped as to how I get the fuel rail out. The plastic rectangular wiring harness loom thing for the injectors is in the way. It almost seems like I can pop the top off of it but I do not want to break it and do not really see how that would benefit me.

How do I get this thing out of the way?

remove that vacuum crankcase hose then just pull up on it. It comes off easily.

let me know when you feel dumb.

there is a round plug under the intake manifold. undo it, wiggle the plastic cover out and you're set.

there are metal clips that hold both the rail to the injectors and that hold the electricals to the injectors, make sure those are undone

you don't have to undo the clips, that's only the early injector harnesses. Just pull up on one end. it'll pop free.

But not as dumb as I would have felt had I shattered 23 year old plastic.

The PCV hose? It feels like the wires are the main issue but I will remove it.

I remember 2 plugs underneath this guy:

1 of them is for the impulse sensor, Is the other one for the injectors? It would make sense. It would seem logical that you could disconnect the whole injector loom like that.

yert315, is that what you are referring to?

no.. the plug you are looking for is directly under the throttle/intake manifold. that's the diagnostics port. the plugs under it are for the crank and impulse sensors.

thanks for the clarification. I should be good from here on out but just out of curiosity I was wondering if it is easiest to fit the injectors in the fuel rail first, then press them into the manifold, or to press them into the manifold and then put the rail on top of them .

i usually put them into the manifold first.

sometimes that thing can really be hard to pull out!

i would think it would be a PITA to get the clips on (that hold the injectors to the rails) if you put them in the manifold first.

nah, they're pretty easy to snap into place.

I've always found it easiest to put the injectors in the rail first, then press the assembly into the manifold.

Either way you do it, be sure that they are completely seated when you re-install. I would get new o-rings for them while you're at it.
