    B27/B25 Cylinder head components

Do the B27 and B25 share the same cam sprocket, rocker clips, and "ventilation pipe" (part# 11421265376)?

I picked up a B25 head for a good price, but it didn't include the cam sprocket, the pipe that runs across the top of the head, valve cover, or cam sprocket. I was hoping to reuse these from my B27 head, but want to make sure before I find myself without a running car and needing to order parts.

    Thanks,

the oil tube is the same, and I am 99% sure the cam gear is the same size

i think the piston of the 2.5 and 2.7 are different so the chamber are different on the head you will have a low compression engine i as far as i understand

Did you even read the original post?

I mainly need to know if the cam sprockets are the same. Anybody?

Sorry to revive an old thread but I just want to make certain about the cam sprockets because I'm going to be doing the job this week. Also, can anyone tell me why my eta cam sprocket doesn't have the hash mark for timing?

Maybe Jim or nando can chime in?

I've never seen a cam sprocket that didn't have a mark for cam timing, be it from an M20B27 or M20B25 head. It is kind of essential that there be a mark. To the best of my knowledge, the cam sprockets are interchangeable.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That's what I would have thought. Here's a pic of the sprocket with the harmonic balancer at TDC

That type of cam sprocket does have a mark. It's an arrow on the inner portion of it pointing out towards the teeth. You just cant see it in the picture because its on the bottom half. I bet if you rotate the crank shaft around 2x it will be lined up on the cam sprocket also.

There's a neat and tidy way to check if parts are the same between engines, even other various parts. Go to realoem (firs link) and select the model u have, look for the part u need, copy the part number and then go back to the start and do a parts search. Then u can see which car that part fits too. Did it for the camsprocket, which u can see it fits according to BMW :)

                          Thanks,

Early ETA's had the stamped steel cam sprocket. The timing mark is near the center and an actual arrow. If turning up the RPM's, run the i cam sprocket as I've heard the stamped steel sprockets can fail.

OK, just in case anyone else runs into this here is a pic of the arrow. Wish it was located at the periphery, where would make it easier to see and line up with the other mark.

Can you elaborate more? I probably won't spend too much time above 6k rpm aside from fractions of a second when I'm winding her out, which isn't that often.

On related note the machine shop put .030" shims in the valve springs to stiffen them a little. *just out of curiosity* Would this allow me to safely run above 7k rpm? (assume rev limiter disabled)
