AFM is the only thing I can think of, really. If the CSV is jammed open, it would just run like shit instead of starting and dying, and an m20 will start and run (roughly) with a vacuum leak.

A humongous vacuum leak can cause a similar problem to the AFM not working, but you say you've looked for one already. Check the intake boot for cracks between the ridges, those are sometimes easy to miss.

definitely replace the intake boot. vacuum leaks really mess with the engine.

the afm (now that i know its called that and not maf, heh.) on my car is bad. if i want it to start in the morning i have to unplug the wire to it and then start the car with a little bit of revving. after i idle it a bit i can plug it in and it'll be so-so, but it'll run.

so give it a shot, unplug the afm, and then try to start it.

tried to do that and failed. any other ideas/ intake boot is pretty secure, what other factors cause a car not to start. i do have spark fuel and air.
