i heard somewhere that the I head will not fit correctly on the eta block.. is this a myth?? i always thought it was direct bolt on...

gotcha, thanks for repsonse...
i have a 87' 325is head, (needs new rockers, i figure i rebuild mostly all of it)
and i have a block from 83' 528e.. (will block still match up?)
so in my case, i should look for super eta pistons OR get custom ones huh... cool.. my plan it to drop it into my 87' 325is (that has a running engine in it now) so i figure everything should just hook right up.. (right?)
i live in charlotte NC, i heard there is someone in winston salem who makes custom piston? anyone know who this is? he got a site?

.. yes sir, i agree !!!.. should only be put together after a date with your fav machine shop !!!!Originally posted by BrewSome of you people need to realize that you can't just bolt a bunch of 15-20 year old parts together and have yourself a kickass engine. There are very precise tolerances within an engine that you MUST get right or else it will not last, it will burn oil, it will not make any power, etc. Just the measuring equipment necessary to properly build a motor can cost thousands of dollars.--Hayden--

Yes, blocks should match up fine. The 528e is the same Eta bottom end.Originally posted by Switchgotcha, thanks for repsonse...

Yes, either Super Eta or custom. If you did this, I'd suggest converting to the newer Motronic, use 1.1 instead of 1.0. I have an engine harness online for sale from my 1988 325is if you wanna go that route. ;)Originally posted by Switch

you don't neccesarily need the new computer, but you do need custom tuning for a proper stroker. otherwise you'll spend a bunch of money on the motor and end up making 10hp / 15ft-lbs more than stock.Originally posted by Switchheh, dont laugh... why would i want to upgrade comp?

turner can make a programmable one for around $300 I believe. a regular JC chip is static though for $250. I don't know of anyone running a JC chip with a stroker, they all seem to ping pretty badly with them (not made for high comp etc).Originally posted by Switchi figure a comforti chip (i guess they custom tune it when u call them, and tell them what youve done?) would do it ...Comment

they program it for you. I don't know all the details, but generally you can tune it better on a dyno than you can by the seat of your pants. if you're serious about it, call them and find out.Originally posted by Switchthen what/how would u tune your computeR?Comment

I know this is on a slightly different track than the thread, but does anyone has any dynos of 2.7l strokers?Comment

Early european eta pistons are 11:1 compression correct? So if I used the crank, rods, and euro pistons from an eta, I'd have a 2.7 with roughly 10.2:1 compression, correct? This seems like it would be the best (cost effective) way to go, since using the original i head would give you the advantage of bigger valves over the 731 head, if you went that route w/ US eta pistons. And it would definitely be better than using i pistons and decking the block/shaving the head...
