The problem with Total Seals is that when you seal the top ring 100% there wont be any compression to force the lower rings into their lands thus allowing a little more oil consumption to occour.. They'll just be floating along for the ride. There is no real 'problem' with them and the motor will run with them, but they aren't the best solution.
I had total seal rings in the M10 I built for my 2002. The secret to getting them to break in is to have a good rough finish on the cylinder walls and install them DRY Traditional rings are oiled before installation. This is what gives Toatal seal a bad reputation. Install them correctly and they will be fine. (still not worth the money IMHO Deves rings are great)
