    eta won't start

I'm in the process of trying to obtain a car for the 24hours of LeMons.

Went to check out an 87 eta today, and we couldn't get it started.

The owner said that it was running (albeit rough due to a cracked intake elbow) 2-3weeks ago, and it's been sitting ever since.

It has spark and fuel. We tested the spark plugs and there was a definitely smell of raw fuel from the cylinders after we pulled the plugs.

He said the gas in at least six months old... not sure if that would cause an issue (it did run three weeks ago).

I've never owned an M20 car, so I'm not sure what to look for. Is there anything glaringly obvious?

    I'll upload a video soon.

if you're getting gas and spark, my first guess would be intake leaks. especially since you said it has a cracked intake elbow, look for other obvious leaks. sounds a bit funny when cranking... could just be the video.

You can hear it turning. The pauses are from compression build-up. We pulled the plugs and turned it also... no pauses at all.

It has a HUGE crack in the intake elbow, which is covered by duct tape... kinda. We pulled the plug on the AFM to get it to run in a closed loop too. Still the same problem.

It should still run with the intake leak... not well, but it should start.

                Yeah you're right.

Pull a fuel line and make SURE there is fuel, and look at the condition of said fuel.

+1 that killed my eta too at one point. Check the resistance on them and if they are bad I have some extras.

                      What should the resistance be?

I talked to the po last night and he said all he did was feather the gas.

                          crank, stop
                          pump the throttle
                          crank for 30+ seconds

have you tried push starting it?

Yeah, Darin was feathering it the first time we tried to start it.

If it doesn't start with the starter turning it, pop/push starting it isn't going to work either.

We pumped the throttle when we were trying to start it the first time.
