Why not let the shop that is going to work over the head do it?
cause there is not shop going to work over the head do it. The head is fine, except its getting a new cam and gaskets. I see no reason to pay a shop to do this. I need a place to rent the tool so I can do it myself.

If that is all you are going to do there's no need to remove the valves.
However, if the head has 100k or more on it I'd have it checked for warp, the valves ground, new seals, and new guides if they are worn (and they probably are).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It is getting new seals - basically all new rubber, best I know the head has about 80K on it, I will be checking for warp this weekend, but the guy I got it from said there was none, obviously I need to check, but to replace valve seals I need to remove the spring.
