not that i'm complaining, i dont need to go faster in my eta. but i would like to solve the issue behind it.

little history:
m20b27. ~210k miles. i recently replaced the o2 because it was physically damaged. however, i did run it with a malfunctioning o2 sensor for about a month, well the entire time i owned it, but it was ok for most of that time. it was producing a very lean run condition. i am burning both coolant and oil. but not too much. maybe 12oz of coolant and 2 quarts of oil every 3000 miles. i dont have any leaks.

yesterday, i decided to see what this eta can do (i've had it for 8 months) and hit 90mph. it misfired. so i backed off.

i used to be able to commute @ 80mph, but now if i hold speed at 80mph it will misfire.

any ideas on what i broke?

I'd start at fuel pressure.

My first suspicions would be a problem with fuel or ignition. The Bentley manual has a suite of fuel system tests that will assess the health of the parts of the fuel system. There's a good chance that the ignition wires, distributor cap, and rotor are quite old (maybe even original). Replacing those (and the plugs) with new parts should help.

ignition wires, cap and rotor, are brand new. distributor was pulled from a friends car he parted with 130k, it tests out excellent.

fuel pressure could be a reason, as i have the an old i FPR in there. not an eta one. thanks.

Burning coolant? The cooling system is closed and should not use 12 ounces in 3000 miles. If you don't have any coolant leaks, it sounds like you have a head gasket problem to me.

oh, i definitely have a head gasket leak somewhere in the vicinity of cylinders #5 and #6.

i am not concerned. its my beater and i want to do as little to it as possible, just enough to keep it running. we'll see how long it maintains beater status though, because my patience is wearing thin on 122hp. i may end up going m50.
