Best size for good sounding exhaust

What's a good size exhaust for my 90 325i? 2.22"? 2.5"? Different size? I don't want it to be outrageously loud or really quiet either.

      2.25 or 2.5.

If I were gonna keep an M20 car, I would do a 2.7 SETA/I combo on Motronic 1.3

I would do ebay headers into a dual 2" cat (that magnaflow one) and a decent (maybe not Burns, but at least magnaflow) quality (not fleabay) "Y" and run 2.5" mandrel bent stuff back to a Borla...or just a Billy Boat. To this day the best exhaust i have ever heard on an M20 was the BB Triflo.

BTW, if you have say roughly $750 sitting around, I might know where to find a freshly ceramic coated set of real long tube Hartges...you could hang a damn trashcan behind those and it would sound hot!

how much do you think it would roughly cost for this whole exhaust set-up?

Can you tell me the difference between B&B triflo and the bav auto triflo? i just picked up a bav auto triflo did a little search and found the only difference is that B&B doesnt have a cat while bav auto does is that all? im still not sure if i wanna keep the cat on or off. any suggestions?

that would be a decent setup, except you want to merge your final pulses before they get to the cat.

I disagree, and so does BMW. None of their high-performance cars merge before the cat.

that's only because they have to have the cats right behind the headers for emissions

I also believe some of the earlier BMW's (pre 1976) used 2 into 1 prior to the resonator and Metric Mechanic touches upon this on their site.

If that person is willing to play with the price a little bit and include shipping... I would be very very interested.

that's a good price, just a bit more than what my RD's + ceramic coating cost.

Believe it or not... a quick image search for me to see what long tube e30 hartge headers look like led me to a recent classified on r3v. I ended up buying those. Go figure.
