Sounds like your clutch fan isn't doing its job.

Do a search, you should find your answer pretty quickly.

yup check the clutch fan see if you can stop it with a rolled up newspaper also wouldnt hurt to bleed the system again

When the temp gauge is at 3/4, the fan should be harder to stop with a newspaper. At idle with a cold engine, I can stop my fan with my fingers *disclaimer* don't try at home kiddies.

if your fan clutch is toast, I have a brand new one. I was chasing a run hot condition as well but it turned out to be a bad fan relay.

If it is only getting hot when your not moving it is definitely your fan clutch. When you are moving air is passing over your radiator, everything works fine. When you are at a stop or in traffic no air is passing over your radiator, the coolant gets hot. If it was the pump or anything else it wouldn't happen only when stopped. Mine went last year and those are the exact symptoms

thermostat in wrong way or busted clutch fan.

its a e36 but the spring shit goes into the housing. if it has an arrow on the thermostat make sure thats pointing up.
