Mine went last year and those are the exact symptoms

I put on a euro valance and lip and noticed my temp rose more dramatically. After tearing my hair out I realised that neither one of them have cooling vents cut out. Between that and my bad fan relay, it could get pretty hot in warm traffic. A direct wired fan switch is good stuff. I leave it on for city driving and the needle stands bang in the middle. I'm going to keep the same setup with my S50 swap.'87 325ic, powered by S50.

OMG everyone forgets about the number 1 reason this happens, THERE IS AIR IN YOUR SYSTEM. Bleed the mother phucker. I had the same problem, get all the air out of the cooling system first then look at the other culprits. I would try the rolled up news paper trick though just to be safe.harry/harout
