    eta idle issue

Hey guys, I have been having an idle problem the whole time I've owned the car.
    link: http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104481

My eta still has idling issues..
On start-up it run's up to like 3k on the tach (it only goes up to like 2200-2500 on the first start in the morning when my oils still cold n thick but every other start throughout the day hits like 3k)
after 4 or 5 seconds it drops down to 1k and then just surges between 1k-2.2k..
I have looked for a vacuum leak, and given the fact that it runs very rich, leads me to believe that it is not a vacuum leak..
I have changed my Idle Control Valve, the Idle Control Module, AFM, and cold start valve.

    edit:
I went ahead and cleaned my ICV(even though I replaced it with a known working one), cause it had a lot of carbon build-up inside of it.. That didn't make a difference as far as the idling issue though, but it's sure as hell cleaned up now, the inside piece moves as it should

    edit:
Well no dice after replacing the DME. I'm stumped and it's really getting annoying.. Any other ideas?

However on a side note, I ran about a half a can of Seafoam through the vacuum line that is coming out of the intake mani and the occasional laggyness is gone, but my idling issue is still there..

    edit:
changed the TPS and no go on that one either..

    Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated,

    Rob

Hi Rob. I'd be surprised if it didn't turn out to be a vacuum leak. The ecu richens the fuel mixture because if there is a vacuum leak somewhere, the o2 sensor is saying the mix is lean.

Also, I don't know if it really apples to this car or not, but my old e34 had a problem once where the airflow meter flap was binding a little and causing some crazy idling stuff. Now that I think of it, though, it wasn't the same thing every time.

Just reread the other thread. I don't know if this car has one, but my 318i with the m10 has a separate idle computer that causes similar symptoms if it's on its way out. You might also trace the wires on the icv to their end and check for continuity/grounding.

Yeah, the eta does have one and I changed that too (to no avail)..
I checked everywhere for a vacuum leak using some brake cleaner and it did not affect anything..

How about checking the resistance or changing the o2 sensor? If it controls the fuel/air mixture and is causing the car to run rich could that increase your idle? Not sure, just an idea. I'll look in my bentley in a bit if you don't have one to troubleshoot from.

Yeah that could be a good reason for it to run rich.. However I dont have a DMM, nor have I ever had to use one (Im sure its not hard but none the less).

I changed the o2 sensor that is near the gear selector with a universal bosch one..
should i change the other one?

                  E30's only have 1 O2 sensor
