Tow the thing. I would check all the fuel lines and the seal on the fuel pump bracket first, odds are against a hole in your tank. If the lines are ok you can jack up your car and probably smell/see where the hole is. Don't smoke around it and definitely don't start welding on it. Take it to a shop to have it welded. Welding on a gas tank requires removing it, getting all the gas out and then using a commercial cleaner. The tank must then be evacuated because the fumes are still explosive.

i almost bought a e30 with a rusted filler neck. i looked up old build threads on the car and the PO prior to the owner selling said he had to keep the gas below the halfway mark otherwise it would spill out around turns.
why weld it?
just get another gas tank. drop the fucked up one, install new and roll out!
should be a weekend job

To get the pump out you have to take the level sender out first. 4 little nuts ( 8mm I think ) on studs hold the sender into the middle of the pump housing. Take them off and lift out the sender, it's enclosed so you'll have to hold it for a while for the gas to drain out. Keep some rags handy.
