Getting the fan off the water pump...

I got tired of trying to take the clutch fan off the water pump, so I just pulled the entire pump off. Now that I'm calm, I'd like to take another whack at this. I've currently got it sitting like this, in a vice:

And I don't currently have a 32mm bicycle wrench, so I'm using a large pair of vice grips and a fairly BFH. I've given it a couple of hits, and it seems like the wrench is just slipping off.

So I'm going to find a 32mm wrench somewhere, but does anyone have any tips/ideas?

    TIA

1 1/4 inch wrench will fit nicely and remember it's reverse thread.

if you leave the belts and the pump on the car the tension from the belt usually holds the fan pulley tight so you can take the fan off. too bad you took everything off...

You can buy the wrench from any bicycle shop for < $10

Just went to 3 bike shops, none of which had one. They wouldn't lend them either.

Oh well, I'll keep asking around.

Maybe bring the WP to them? If you're really desperate.

Go to Sears and pick up a 32 mm wrench. They usually carry them, and it fits in there just right.

go to bav auto and buy the two tools you need, one holds the waterpump pulley in place, aswell as a wrench to get the bolt off, took like 5 mins to get mine off

Or use a air hammer on the flat of the nut

The right tools for the job go a long way. A bike shop could get you a 32mm wrench in a couple days if you had planned ahead, and I've never encountered a shop that lends tools. I'd bring it to them & let them know it's reverse threaded at this point, and maybe just order the tool while you're there.

A torch and a lot of PB Blaster worked for me. Either way you have to immobilize the pulley one way or another. Either with tension, a homemade tool or something. I had to get creative.
