difference in power between m20b27 and the 2.7l stroker motor?

new to e30's, and new to r3v. im the proud owner of a 86 325es 2.7l that i recently aquired, and its slow as f@ck. but i hear with a m20b25 bottom end it would bring up the power a bit? i searched quick but couldnt find much. just wonder what your input is on this

You heard backwards, and you need an 88 SETA motor, not an 86.

The problem is the two bearing cam and single valve springs that limit the revs to ~4800. That and the head doesn't flow that well. It was built or economy, not speed.

You need an '88 2.7 bottom end and a 885 "i" head. 40-50hp over the stock 2.7 eta.

I thought mine was slow at first. I chipped it and that was enough for me. I care a bit more about economy than power since it is just a driver and never going to see a track under my ownership.

What the hell is a two bearing cam? An eta has a four cam main and an i head has a 7 main cam. What are you talking about?

I hear you bro, it is def slow as Fck. I chipped mine and got a dissent bump, but still wasn't enough For Me, so ended up Stroking it.
You gotta do a lot of research bro. I didn't go the route; 88' seta bottom and I head though. But instead found a 731 head and slapped it on the E bottom, and did rest of the other upgrades as well, with a 3:73lsd..since then have been all :D...Def fast enough For Me now

Try chipping it first though you might end up liking it that way, cause trust me you'll def feel the difference.

                        i had a 86 eta.
put a chip in it, you will feel the most gains from that.
you CAN slap a 885 head on it, i did TONS of research about this. you will lower your compression by putting the 885 head on, which would make the motor perfect for boost.

another idea is to swap out that 2.93 rear diff for a 3.73 or if you want a REAL screamer a 4.10.

the eta motor has lots of torque, little horsepower. think of it like a diesel. low end power. by putting the 885 head on, you will loose low end and gain top end.
i wouldn't do it UNLESS you want to boost your motor, then its a great idea.

my advice, go get a chip and a tune-up. GL

i already have 3.73 lsd rear end, with the m20b27 bolted to a 5 speed, it falls on its face and breaks up under load also, a large issue with it being slow as shit, last night mid drift it came to life like it never had and i was very happy with the power, my fuel pressure is 10psi low i believe, alldata said i should have 46psi i believe, i put my fuel pressure guage on it, i had 26psi, hard to believe it would even run, i unplugged the vacuum line off of my fpr, and it bumped up to 36, i plugged the vacuum line up and am driving it light that now... brand new fuel filter, should probably throw a fuel pump at it. i also have a hunting idle which makes me wonder if my MAF is bad..

I think you need to do some general maintenance before you worry about swapping heads and electronics.

MarkD chips are a good buy. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ighlight=markd
